‘the naked architect’ melbourne open house + architeam

Rob and I were pleased to be part of a small group of 6 architecture Practices selected to be part of The Naked Architect – Melbourne Open House , part of the Melbourne Open House weekend in their first collaboration with Architeam – and with it’s own follow-up seminar series.

The Naked Architect saw 6 emerging and established practices present a single house project across a range of locations and typologies, in one session to an audience of over 60 attendees in the Woods Baggot offices’ open auditorium in central Melbourne. The focus of the initial presentation was on the commissioning of architecture from a client-based perspective; how the commission came about, a little insight into the clients and why they came to your practice, and what made the project unique. It was a challenge and a pleasure to distill Avenue Apartment into these essential aspects for the presentation and to hear the other presenters as well.

The Naked Architect will then present each of these architectural projects across a series of 6 seminars in-situ to members of the public also wishing to commission an architectural project but who don’t know where to start!

“Supported by the Architects Registration Board of Victoria (ARBV), Open House Melbourne and ArchiTeam are presenting a series of six workshops that will arm you with everything you need to know about commissioning and working with an architect.

These workshops will offer practical guidance, advice and ideas about engaging an architect on a home renovation or new build project.

Using the Open House model of direct experience of good design, The Naked Architect: a guide to commissioning and working with a residential architect is being hosted in six examples of architect designed homes across Melbourne. Not only will you be armed with practical advice and ideas, you will be able to meet clients and their architects to hear an honest account of the process”

Avenue Apartment hosts it’s session on October 28th with the theme ‘Stages of the design processs”.
